The infrastructure in Uttarakhand that was devastated by the
flash flood calamity of 2013 has been rebuilt and the state has also developed
additional facilities to welcome pilgrims for a safe 'Char Dham yatra' in this
year 2015.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat has stated that after 2013
devastation, various security measures have been taken to ensure safe and
enjoyable journey for all chardham yatris visiting uttarakhand this year in
2015.
Last year in 2014 Mr. Rawat’s government was being accused of
failing to conduct the Yatra. 150-200 buses used to go on chardham Yatra every
year but last year number drastically dropped to only 15-20 buses everyday visiting
these shrines. Due to blocked highways and unrepaired roads, it was being
suspected that, if conditions like these persist, the yatra in 2015 would also
be a failure.
Mr Rawat assured that the state is building a three-tier
protection system will prevent floods with three times the velocity of the 2013
disaster. Four helipads have also been already built at pilgrimage sites for a
enjoyable journey.
Biometric
registration counters are already in place at entry points to the state and on
yatra routes. Also, five base camps, 48 wayside amenities, seven ghats and 12
night shelters have been put up for the Chardham Yatra India in 2015.
"A special task force comprising police and members from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi, has been set up for the Kedarnath route from Bhimbali which will function under the district magistrate of Rudraprayag.
Additionally, services of private helicopter operators have been engaged to take pilgrims to Kedarnath. The state government is also giving a tax holiday for one year to hoteliers en route to the Chardham, which will enable them to provide low-cost accommodation and food to pilgrims.
