Amarnath Cave

There are many legends behind the discovery of the holy shrine. One of the most well known is related to Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati. Once Maa Parvati asked Lord Shiva that why he is wearing beads of heads (Mund Mala). Lord Shiva replied that whenever you die, I add a head to my bead. Maa Parvati asked him I die again and again but you are immortal. Maa Parvati forced Lord Shiva to tell her the secret behind it. Lord Shiva started searching a lonely place where no one can listen to ‘Amarkath’. Lord Shiva left his Nandi at Pahalgam, moon at Chandanwari, snake at Sheshnag and his son Ganesh at Mahagunas Parvat. At Panjtarni, Lord Shiva left five element –sky,earth,water,fire,air which gives birth o life. After that ,Lord Shiva entered to Amarnath Cave. Lord Shiva created Kalagni and ordered him to eliminate every living being around the holy cave. After this,Lord Shiva started narrating ‘Amarkatha’ to Maa Parvati unknowingly that there are a pair of pigeons. Many pilgrims says that while Amarnathyatra, they see a pair of pigeons .And they are amazed to see that how they survived at so much of cold and high altitute area.
